Understanding the Focus of the Masgutova Foundation
Neurodevelopment
How the brain and nervous system grow and learn to regulate thinking, emotions, movement, and behavior. It is how the brain learns to work efficiently It begins before birth and continues through childhood and into adulthood. Neurodevelopment affects how a person learns to move, speak, think, pay attention, manage emotions, build relationships, and complete everyday tasks. In other words, it is the process that helps shape how we learn, behave, and function throughout life.

NeuroReflex Integration
NeuroReflex Integration helps the brain “finish building its foundation.” By making sure early reflexes are working the way they were designed to, the nervous system can support learning, movement, and emotional well-being more effectively throughout life. Reflexes are automatic responses that support movement, posture, balance, protection, and reactions to the environment. When reflexes are not fully developed or are not working together well, they may affect learning, coordination, attention, emotional control, and the way a person handles stress. NeuroReflex Integration is meant to improve communication between the brain and body so a person can move, learn, and respond more easily.

Neuromodulation
Neuromodulation, in simple terms, is how the nervous system learns to adjust its “volume”—not too high and not too low. It is the process by which the nervous system adjusts how it responds and adapts by changing the way nerve signals are sent, received, or processed. Rather than forcing the brain and body to act, neuromodulation helps shift them out of reactive or stressed patterns and into more balanced, organized, and efficient states. This ability to regulate activity plays a key role in supporting movement, attention, emotional control, stress responses, learning, and overall well-being.

Founded to Make the Impossible, Possible
In 1989, following a devastating railway disaster in Russia, psychologist Dr. Svetlana Masgutova worked with severely traumatized children who had survived the tragedy. During this experience, she began to observe the powerful role of the body’s primary reflexes in recovery.
Primary reflexes are automatic, involuntary responses of the nervous system to a specific stimulus. For example, when you touch the base of a baby’s fingers on the palm, the baby automatically grasps your finger. When you gently touch the side of a baby’s mouth, the baby turns their head toward that side.
As Dr. Masgutova worked with these natural reflex movements and protective patterns, she saw meaningful changes that traditional approaches alone could not fully address.
This insight became the guiding principle for more than 35 years of global research and education in neurodevelopment and reflex integration.
Today, the Masgutova Foundation advances science-based learning that supports regulation, resilience, and human potential worldwide.
