The Effects of Trauma on Neurodiverse Children and Teens

Live Q & A with Danielle Amster, MS, OTR/L
Founder & Clinical Director of SensoryWellness
Tuesday, January 20th at 7:30PM EST

We’re excited to welcome Danielle Amster for a special Bridge session focused on how trauma impacts the nervous systems of neurodiverse children and teens.

In this live, facilitated Q&A, Danielle will explore how experiences such as chronic stress, social exclusion, relational rupture, and repeated emotional injuryincluding bullying and peer adversity—can shape regulation, behavior, learning, and emotional well-being in neurodivergent youth.

Rather than focusing on labels or surface behaviors, this conversation will center on what trauma does to the brain–body system, why neurodiverse children are often more vulnerable to these stressors, and how nervous-system–informed approaches can support healing, resilience, and reconnection.

About the Speaker:

Danielle Amster, MS, OTR/L, is a seasoned occupational therapist with 25 years of experience supporting individuals across the lifespan. A graduate of Columbia University, Danielle founded SensoryWellness with a clear vision: to create a therapy space where children, teens, and adults feel seen, supported, and empowered.

Drawing on advanced training in Sensory Processing Theory, NeuroReflex Integration, Neuroscience, and the biology of trauma and self-regulation, Danielle practices a root-cause approach that moves beyond coping strategies to restore foundational mind–body connections.

Under her leadership, the SensoryWellness team has supported hundreds of clients in regulating their nervous systems, building emotional resilience, and thriving in daily life. Danielle is also deeply committed to clinician education, regularly mentoring therapists and teaching professional workshops.

Her mission is simple yet powerful: to make life easier for individuals struggling with sensory and self-regulation challenges; and to show that meaningful change is possible at any age.
