Research shows that children with early middle ear fluid often experience vestibular deficits in addition to hearing challenges. These sensory disruptions can lead to speech, motor, and learning delays due to sensory deprivation and delayed maturation of primitive/primary reflex pathways—especially when the condition persists or recurs within the first year of life.

In this informative session, Dr. Leah Light, Au.D., will share her extensive experience in neurodevelopment, neuroplasticity, and auditory processing to help therapists and professionals:

  • Understand how middle ear congestion impacts reflex integration and sensory-motor development.

  • Recognize signs that indicate the need for audiology or ENT referral to prevent long-term developmental effects.

  • Review real-life case examples that illustrate how middle ear congestion can affect early movement and development — and why timely recognition is essential.

This session is ideal for therapists, educators, and medical professionals seeking to deepen their understanding of the connection between auditory health and reflex maturation.
